Cuba makes an agreement with FAO to fight illegal and unreported fishing

The Cuban Government made an international agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Latin America to fight against illegal fishing.

FAO and the Ministry of the Food Industry (MINAL according to its acronym in Spanish) initiated a workshop in June to formulate a national strategy for "complying with fishing-related provisions," reported "Prensa Latina."

Illegal fishing accounts for up to $23 billion in costs to the seafood industry.
