FAO launches call for good practices towards sustainable soil and water management

Call for good practices for sustainable soil and water management in Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa seeks to promote the adoption of practices that guarantee healthy and safe production systems. Open to individuals, public and private organizations.

May 25th, Santiago de Chile – The  Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa, the Soil Alliance  of Latin America  and the Caribbean, the Argentine Association of Producers in Direct Sowing, Catholic Relief Services and the +Cotton Project of the Brazil International Cooperation Program -FAO  are carrying out a Call for Good Practices.

Within the framework of World Soil Day, whose main theme for this year 2023 is to highlight the importance in the relationship of soils with water and vice versa, this Call aims to identify and recognize good practices, innovations and technologies that can be replicated, adapted and scaled up in Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa to achieve sustainable soil and water management in silvoagricultural, and food systems.

The adoption of good practices is essential to achieve sustainable production systems and ensure a healthy food system. Sustainable soil and water management contributes to both food security and the promotion of healthy ecosystems and livelihoods of rural families and communities.

This Call is open to all interested persons, such as individuals, farmers, trainers, extensionists, technicians, professionals and other stakeholders related to the rural world. Participants may belong to public bodies, research centres, international, multilateral and cooperation organisations, non-governmental and civil society organisations, communities and producer organisations, as well as corporations and private companies. Both individual applications and those represented by institutions will be accepted.

Those interested can send their applications from May 18th to June 8th at 11:00 p.m. (Santiago de Chile Time). Consultations on the call can also be made until June 1st. The evaluation process will take place from June 9th to July 9th, and the results will be announced from the second half of July.

This call seeks to strengthen sustainable soil and water health practices, encourage the co-creation, exchange and dissemination of local innovations, and promote capacities to improve soil health and water management, as well as farmers' autonomy.
