Indigenous Peoples celebrate Indigenous Terra Madre 2015

Indigenous Terra Madre (ITM) is an international festival of the world’s indigenous food communities, who gather to share their experiences and examples on promoting sustainable food systems, which are more socially, economically and culturally just – where wellbeing comes from connectedness with each other.

Indigenous Terra Madre 2015 will be held in Meghalaya, Shillong, India on 3-7 November 2015. It is a joint venture of the Indigenous Partnership for Agrobiodiversity and Food Sovereignty (Indigenous Partnership); Slow Food International; IFAD; The Christensen Foundation; FAO; the North East Slow Food and Agrobiodiversity Society NESFAS; and the Regional Government of Meghalaya.

FAO will contribute by bringing members of the FAO Pastoralists Knowledge Hub as well as presenting a number of key topics related to indigenous food systems: food composition analysis; tenure of land and natural resources; free prior and informed consent; shifting cultivation and ongoing research on matriarchal societies and  food security and nutrition.

FAO will present its work for indigenous peoples and pastoralists, exchange knowledge and experiences, hold dialogue and strengthen its network and cooperation with indigenous peoples and partner organizations on how to work achieve the future that we want.
