FAO Publications recognized at Umeå food symposium

 Umeå, Sweden - The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards invited the FAO Indigenous Peoples Unit to the Umeå Food Symposium to present the publication entitled Indigenous Peoples’ food systems: insights on sustainability and resilience from the front line of climate change, co-published by FAO and Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT in June 2021.

During the event that brought hundreds of publishers, authors, chefs and journalists from over 50 countries to Umeå, FAO on behalf of the partners involved in the publication received the 2022 Hall of Fame Award in person from Edouard Cointreau, the President of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

“It was a collective effort by many different Indigenous Peoples’ organizations, so it is extremely important for them, and I thank you for that. Very often, Indigenous Peoples are invisible to our eyes, and the fact that there is an award to their food systems means a lot,” said Yon Fernandez de Larrinoa, head of the Indigenous Peoples Unit about the publication.

Four additional FAO publications received mentions in four different categories:

The Publication “FAO at 75, Grow Nourish and Sustain Together”, received the First Prize in the gastronomy history category.

Three other FAO Publications received mentions:

Gourmand has different categories for publications about food and drinks, in print or digital format, paid or free, private or public, commercial or self-published.

Gourmand is a regular organizer of book fairs and international food symposiums. The organization has collaborated with UNESCO, organized the Paris book fair, and are a frequent player in the Frankfurt International book fair.
