From February 14 to the 19th, 25 indigenous peoples' representatives and experts from Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, Nicaragua and Honduras met in Panama City to learn and discuss on the practical uses of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT) for indigenous peoples. Indigenous women leaders from different regions of Peru met in the city of Lima to participate in the face-to-face seminar of the Leadership School of Indigenous Women, a joint initiative of the International Indigenous Women Forum (IIWF-FIMI) and FAO. 13 indigenous women representatives of organizations related to women empowerment, nutrition, agriculture and other fields came from diverse regions of the mountain and forest areas of the country to learn about food security, nutrition and human rights. Las 25 lideresas indígenas que participaron del Programa de Derechos Humanos, Soberanía y Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutrición en Bolivia, que es desarrollado de forma coordinada por La Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO) y el Foro Internacional de Mujeres Indígenas (FIMI), lograron concretar sus planes de incidencia y al mismo tiempo de propiciar un espacio de intercambio presencial entre las participantes. More than 350 indigenous women from at least 22 countries of the Americas joined together in Guatemala City from the 16th  to the 20th  of November to take part in the VII Continental Meeting of Indigenous Women from the Americas. Indigenous peoples can play a critical role in the fight against hunger, according to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Given their invaluable traditional knowledge, the FAO says indigenous peoples can be key partners in alleviating food insecurity, as well as the attainment of some of the other sustainable development goals. Veronica Reeves spoke with Yon Fernandez de Larrinoa, an FAO Advocacy Officer, and asked him what role indigenous peoples and communities can play in reaching the global goal on hunger.
