Ms. Lila Hanitra Ratsifandrihamanana joined the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations as the Director of the FAO Liaison Office with the United Nations (LON), effective 1 October 2009.
Prior to her appointment, Ms. Ratsifandrihamanana joined the African Union in 2007 and served as Ambassador, Permanent Observer of the African Union to the United Nations until September 2009.
From 2002-2006, she was appointed as Ambassador of Madagascar to Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Cape Verde, the Gambia and Côte d'Ivoire, with residence in Dakar.
Ms. Ratsifandrihamanana was the Minister of Scientific Research of the Republic of Madagascar in 1997 and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, from 1998 to 2002.
From 1986-1998, she was a Permanent Teacher and Researcher at the Higher Teacher Training School (Ecole Normale Supérieure) at the University of Antananarivo and Head of the University's Centre for Studies and Research in Natural Sciences from 1993-1997.
Ms. Ratsifandrihamanana is a national of the Republic of Madagascar and holds a M.Sc. degree in Engineering with specialization in Geophysics from St. Petersburg Mining Institute, a M.Sc. degree in Geology and a M.Sc. degree in Administrative Science, Diplomacy and International Relations from Farleigh Dickinson University, USA.
