4 July 2005, Rome -- Opening of the Codex Alimentarius Commission
The 28th session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission runs from 4 to 9 July at FAO Headquarters in Rome. Technical assistance programmes by FAO and WHO support the efforts of developing countries to strengthen their national food safety systems to protect local consumers and to take advantage of international food trade opportunities.

1. FAO calls for strengthened partnership: "CODEX cannot work in isolation, " says FAO Deputy Director-General, David Harcharik, in his opening address before some 500 participants from more than 100 countries:
