FAO 40th Conference - FAO Awards 2017

5 July 2017, Rome - In a ceremony held during FAO's governing Conference, ten organizations and individuals received awards - and thanks - from the agency's Director-General, Jose Graziano da Silva. The audio has been extracted from the video interviews with each winner.

(00:01) Keni Lesa, journalist, Samoa Observer, A.H. Boerma Award - Mr Lesa speaks about the food security challenges facing the Pacific Region and how he tackles those issues as a journalist; (02:38) Zeynad Wandati, journalist, National Television Kenya, A.H. Boerma Award – Ms Wandati speaks about the importance of creating awareness about food security issues in the region; and the challenges she faces reporting on those issues.

(00:02) William Lacy Swing, Director General of the International Organization for Migration, Jacques Diouf Award – Mr Swing discusses the links between food security, climate change, migration, human rights and decent employment; (03:24) Adriaan Levinus Boogaard, Head of International Programs - Rabobank, Jacques Diouf Award - Mr Boogaard comments on the challenges rural producers cooperatives and agribusiness’ face in accessing credit; as well as the ways in which these stakeholders can contribute to addressing a number of global issues.

(00:02) Dr. Monde Mayekiso, Chair of the Commission for the Conservation of Artic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), Margarita Lizárraga Medal Award – Dr. Mayekiso discusses the main challenges of conserving and managing marine living resources in the Antarctic and the ways in which other Regional Fishery Bodies can replicate those successful initiatives; (01:57) Arnaldo Jose Gómez Vásquez, director ejecutivo del Consejo Nacional para la Reglamentación y Fomento de la Industria Lechera, Edouard Saouma Award [Spanish] – Mr Gómez Vásquez spoke about the importance of collaboration between Government and FAO in implementing sustainable milk production and marketing in the Dominican Republic.
