Reduce Rural Poverty

People's empowerment

Getting poor rural people organized increases the chances of long-lasting poverty reduction. Through collective action, cooperatives, producer organizations and networks, poor rural people can improve their bargaining power, access to markets and productivity, increase their participation in decision-making processes and influence the formulation of national policies affecting their livelihoods.

FAO helps countries empower the rural poor and strengthen rural organizations to improve their productivity and participation in national and local decision-making processes.
