The main objective of the consultation and workshop is to make inventory of various elements of the seed programme and to find out the current status of seed production in 12 member countries of the Subregion. The outcome of the workshop will help FAO to assist the member countries in improvement and development of functional and sustainable seed delivery system adequate to meet both basic national requirements for food security and meeting minimum international standards.

REU Policy Studies on Rural Transition
Topics covered in this new series include land reform and farm restructuring, livestock development, agriculture in the new EU member states after accession, crop diversification and farm debt. This series includes studies on agricultural policies in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Central Asia and Central Eastern Europe, but the list will expand as new titles are added.

In October three important events prepared the ground for the World Summit on Food Security:
High-Level Expert Forum on How to Feed the World in 2050
Committee for World Food Security (CFS)
World Food Day, October 16, focuses this year on how to ensure Food Security in times of crisis.
