ONE THIRD - A Project on Food Waste launched in 2012

by Klaus Pichler

According to the FAO 2011 global study one third of the world's food goes to waste - the largest part thereof in the industrialized nations of the global north. Equally, 925 million people around the world are threatened by starvation. The series 'One Third' describes the connection between individual wastage of food and globalized food production. Rotting food, arranged into elaborate still lifes, portrays an abstract picture of the wastage of food whilst the accompanying texts take a more in depth look at the roots of this issue. 'One Third goes past the sell by date in order to document the full dimensions of the global food waste.

This project is dedicated to the workers of the global food industry.
