Despite sustained, gradual improvement in recent years, global hunger and food insecurity remain far above the targets set by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It is estimated that 645 million people faced hunger in 2025. Beyond ensuring access to sufficient dietary energy, populations must have economic access to safe, diverse and nutritious foods. Yet, healthy diets are unaffordable for about 2.7 billion people worldwide.

The 30th Session of the Committee on Agriculture (COAG)

event

During the 2026 Session, of COAG, delegates will engage in discussions covering a wide range of matters aligned with the COAG mandate. These will include fostering innovation in food security, bioeconomy, One Health, advancing climate resilience, sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity, and sustainable land and water management, the Global Plan of Action for Sustainable Livestock Transformation, as well as women, youth, family farmers and smallholders as agents of rural development and poverty reduction.

The Committee on Agriculture (COAG) is a Governing Body of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Established in 1971, COAG has over 130 Member Nations and provides guidance on agriculture-related policies, reviews global agricultural issues and trends, and advises on emerging topics.
