Gender, food security and nutrition in protracted crises. Women and girls as agents of resilience

Guidance to implement the framework for action for food security and nutrition in protracted crises (CFS-FFA)
Year: 2016
Author(s): FAO
This note focuses on the topic of gender in protracted crisis situations. It advocates that FAO’s mandate to achieve food security for all by raising levels of nutrition, increasing agricultural productivity and natural resource management, and improving the lives of rural populations can only be achieved through gender equality. Past experience can provide guidance on how to address gender equality as part of food and nutrition security interventions in situations of protracted crisis. Understanding and addressing how men and women of different ages are specifically affected by protracted crises is critical for effective and sustainable food and nutrition security interventions. The note includes case studies from FAO's interventions in protracted crisis situations.
