The Instituto de Ciencias Marinas de Andalucía (ICMAN) belonging to Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), was created in 1955 under the name "Fisheries Research Institute", and is located on the University Campus of Puerto Real (Cádiz) since year 1986, where it moved from its previous facilities in the fishing port of Cádiz.

The ICMAN maintains a strong commitment to research and the development of Marine Sciences. Its research has contributed to improving knowledge of marine ecosystems, the management and sustainability of their resources, as well as the impacts of climate change and anthropogenic pressures. In addition, one of its strategic objectives is the training of new researchers who can help address future challenges.
