The Arid Regions Institute (Institut des Régions Arides, IRA) is a research institute in Tunisia established in 1976 by Law No. 76/6 and attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries. The Institut des Régions Arides (IRA) conducts scientific research and training focused on the development of the agricultural sector, the protection and conservation of natural resources, and the fight against desertification in the country’s arid and desert zones. Its main missions include undertaking research to support rural development, providing training and capacity building for technicians and specialists in dryland agriculture and combating desertification, contributing to agricultural extension and technical support, and offering expertise for development projects in these dry regions of southern Tunisia. The Arid Regions Institute (Institut des Régions Arides) also participates in national and international research collaborations and works to disseminate findings to stakeholders and decision‑makers.
