Agro-informatics Tech Talk: VISTA + EVE

Satellite-based flood monitoring for emergency decision support

09/07/2026

Event Details

Join the Digital FAO and Agro-informatics Division (CSI) and our guest speaker, Andrea Amparore (Office of Emergencies and Resilience), for a presentation on VISTA and EVE, two complementary initiatives for satellite-based flood monitoring and emergency decision support.

Thursday, 9 July, 3.00pm–4.00pm

Background

VISTA is a reference archive built from 15 years of daily satellite observations and developed through a consortium of agencies. It provides a consistent historical baseline of surface water and flood dynamics. EVE is a near-real-time platform that will use VISTA as a reference layer, combining current flood information from satellite observations with FAO and partner datasets to support exposure analysis and help identify which populations, crops, livestock and agricultural areas may be affected.

We will go through the main concepts behind the two initiatives and provide an online demonstration of the datasets and platforms. Both platforms are expected to be officially launched in Q4 2026, but they can already be used internally. The session will also be an opportunity to gather feedback from participants and use their input to refine the systems ahead of the official launch.
