Digital Agriculture Solutions Forum 2023

Amman (Jordan), Hybrid Event, 11/07/2023 - 13/07/2023

Land and water resources in the NENA region are currently facing severe stress, likely to be worsened with the projected increase in drought and extreme weather events as a result of climate change. To tackle these challenges, a transformative approach is required to support the agriculture sector in becoming more productive and sustainable. In this context, digital agriculture emerges as a potential solution, offering opportunities to enhance productivity, improve resilience, and uplift smallholder farmers' livelihoods. However, barriers such as digital literacy, the gender-digital gap, and the affordability of information services still need to be addressed to fully harness the potential of digital agriculture.

FAO and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) have been working to assist members in developing a holistic approach for identifying, developing, and implementing digital solutions in agriculture, resulting in the development of the national E-agriculture Strategy, which has been implemented in several countries. To better share this knowledge and experience, the Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa in partnership with ITU and in technical collaboration with the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) have collaborated to organize the FAO-ITU Digital Agriculture Solutions Forum 2023 (DASF 2023).

This three-day event, which will take place from 11th to 13th July in Amman, Jordan, aims at assisting countries in the NENA region in the development of their e-agriculture national strategy and consequently to further promote and invest in digital agriculture. It will emphasis the importance for members to develop a holistic approach to help guide digital solutions implementation in the country with a focus on agriculture and rural development.

Gathering country representatives from the NENA region, including from the Ministry of Agriculture and ICT and environment, digital agriculture solution providers, representatives from agri-businesses, agriculture research institutes, other international organizations and the civil society, the event will address key issues and help members identify, develop and sustain digital solutions for the agrifood systems in the NENA region, with a focus on climate change challenges.

Moreover, the event will feature an exhibition from digital agriculture solution providers, offering participants a chance to explore cutting-edge technologies and network with industry experts to further strengthen national digital agriculture implementation programmes and build partnerships.
