Nairobi, Kenya – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) joined a diverse group of youth leaders, policymakers, academics, researchers, development partners and agricultural experts at the first Annual Forum of the Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network Global (GCSAYN), held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 11 to 12 August 2026.

FAO has taken another step in advancing responsible open digital innovation with the approval of two additional open-source software tools, the Climate and Agriculture Risk Visualization and Assessment (CAVA) Platform and the Environmental eXternalities ACcounting Tool (EX-ACT).

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) brought together national veterinary authorities, technical experts and One Health partners in Antananarivo from 4–8 May 2026 to strengthen Madagascar's capacity to anticipate and respond to Rift Valley fever (RVF) outbreaks through geospatial technologies and predictive decision-support tools.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) of the Sultanate of Oman, organized a two-day hybrid workshop on Agro-informatics and geospatial data management from 13 to 14 May 2026.

More than 400 students, researchers, academics and professionals from around the world registered for the FAO Technical Lecture Series session on “FAO’s Agro-informatics Platform and Digital Tools in Agriculture”, reflecting strong interest in how data, digital technologies and open-access tools can support the transformation of agrifood systems.

At the the Regional AI Dialogue for Agrifood Systems in the Near East and North Africa, the latest AI integrations into the DSP were demonstrated as a practical support layer that ensures advisory services are easier to create, access, navigate and apply, while reinforcing local ownership and institutional validation.

On 20 May 2026, a prototype of the Southeast Asia and the Pacific (SEAP) Forests Knowledge Hub was presented at the First Annual Conference of the SEAP Forests Integrated Program (IP)  in Luang Prabang, Lao People's Democratic Republic. The demonstration attracted strong interest from participants and drew positive feedback from representatives of governments, regional organizations, research institutions, civil society organizations, and finance partners from across the region. 

Tunis, Tunisia – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) convened Libyan national stakeholders and technical focal points in Tunis from 20 to 23 April 2026 to strengthen capacities in geospatial data management, remote sensing and artificial intelligence applications supporting sustainable natural resource management across North Africa.

FAO has officially released the GLEAM-X R package as open-source software, paving the way for open digital assets as the new core of FAO's work. 

FAO and Politecnico di Milano (PoliMi) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in the fields of Geospatial Information Technology (Geospatial IT) and Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI).

From 9 to 11 March 2026, FAO organized a three-day online training workshop on the Agro-informatics Platform for the Country Office in Ukraine. The initiative aimed to strengthen national capacities in managing, publishing, and analyzing agricultural data, supporting more informed and data-driven decision-making across the agrifood sector.

The FAO Digital Services Portfolio was on display at a national learning event in Tanzania, Advancing Climate Resilience: Bringing Climate Information to Farmers. FAO's presentation covered the platform's latest advancements, including DSP-in-a-Box, the Key Messages Generator, and Farmer AI.

FAO Agro-informatics Platform online guides have been refreshed with a new harmonized visual identity that makes them easier to recognize, follow and navigate across topics.

After evolving into an integral component of national agriculture support and management processes, the farmer registration module of KIAMIS was handed over by FAO to the Government of Kenya.

Tunis, Tunisia – From 17 to 21 November 2025 FAO engaged with farmers, cooperatives and national partners across several regions of Tunisia to advance the deployment of the Digital Services Portfolio (DSP) and its offline companion solution, DSP-In-Box. 

Bringing together government representatives, national digital agriculture focal points and FAO experts, the East Africa Regional Digital Innovation Workshop for Agrifood Systems Transformation marked an important step toward strengthening coordinated digital efforts across the subregion. This workshop created a platform for participating countries to exchange experiences, assess progress and identify shared priorities that will guide regional collaboration on new digital solutions for agrifood systems transformation.

From 3 to 7 November 2025, FAO organized a virtual capacity-building workshop for the Country Office in Mauritania covering use of the Agro-informatics Platform, a core tool for managing, publishing and sharing agricultural and geospatial data.
