The AgriTech Observatory, established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), has made significant strides since its launch in February and is now in full-scale operation. The tool monitors the rapidly evolving landscape of digital agriculture in Europe and Central Asia and identifies innovative solutions to regional challenges. 

 

The 12th International Conference on Agro-Geoinformatics took place at Biosense Insitute in Novi Sad, Serbia, from July 15th to 18th, 2024. This annual conference gathered experts, researchers, and professionals from around the world to discuss the latest advancements and applications in agro-geoinformatics. The event featured multiple sessions covering a wide range of topics crucial to the digital transformation of agrifood systems, including sessions lead by FAO focusing on “Agro-Informatics at Scale - Informatics for Agrifood Systems Digital Transformation". 

Leveraging farmer contact information, KIAMIS allows value-added services such as targeted advisories, inputs management, credit management, and mechanization services to be integrated. Additionally, it offers decision-makers valuable insights into sector dynamics and production as well as, the effectiveness of subsidy programs, thereby enhancing transparency and optimizing the targeting of inputs to maximize benefits.

The WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event is scheduled to be held from 27 to 31 May 2024. FAO is organizing a session on Thursday 30th May 2024, 11:00-11:45 CEST on ‘The Future of Digital Agriculture: Process for Progress- Reflecting and Building on WSIS 20 years’ journey’.

The Agricultural Stress Index System (ASIS) has been recently added to the DPG Registry. ASIS is an innovative tool developed by FAO to monitor agricultural drought across the globe. Updating its data every 10 days, ASIS utilizes satellite technology to pinpoint regions at high risk of water stress and drought.

On Friday 12 April at 14:00 CEST, Dr. Rabi N. Sahoo, Principal Scientist at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) with over 24 years of experience in Remote Sensing and its applications in Agriculture, will discuss challenges and opportunities of remote sensing and data analytics for precision agriculture.
