Digital at Science and Innovation Forum 2023 Innovation Talks

12/10/2023, Rome
Data, technology and innovation are key to transforming our agrifood systems and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Digital technologies can help increase the production of sufficient nutritious food for an ever-growing population, manage our limited natural resources and reduce poverty.

By mainstreaming the use of digital technologies in agriculture, FAO is helping to transform rural communities, particularly for youth and aspiring farmers, to diversify incomes and unlock on- and off-farm opportunities. Digital technologies are the driving force to achieve efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, leaving no one behind.

Showcasing two of its flagship initiatives in the area of digital transformation, FAO will host two interactive Innovation Talks at the FAO Science and Innovation Forum 2023 (SIF 2023).

New Vision and Developments of FAO Digital Services Portfolio on Tuesday 17 October from 15:15 - 15:45.
We will be exploring the FAO Digital Services Portfolio (DSP), a cloud-based platform designed to disseminate information in the food and agriculture and related sectors and scale up agricultural services for smallholders and family farmers, fostering digital inclusion, through real-life examples.

The New FAO Agroinformatics Platform with Expanded Digital Capabilities (Hand-in-Hand Global Platform) on Wednesday 18 October from 14:30 - 15:00.
We will be diving into the newly launched FAO Agroinformatics Platform (AP) to present the newest developments and digital capabilities developed at FAO, building on the first and still growing success of the flagship FAO Hand-in-Hand Geospatial platform, the technical arm of FAO Hand-in-Hand Initiative.

Advancing in the common digital journey for agrifood systems transformation is crucial for achieving FAO’s mandate.
The FAO Science and Innovation Forum 2023 will serve as a unique platform to share FAO's cutting-edge initiatives and strategies. These SIF 2023 Innovation Talks will place the spotlight on the pivotal role of digital technologies in agrifood systems transformation, emphasizing FAO's commitment to fostering digital inclusion and innovation within the agrifood sector.
