Desert Locust Information Service - New Update
03/03/2025
FAO closely monitors the global Desert Locust situation 24/7 and provides forecasts, early warning and alerts on the timing, scale and location of invasions and breeding through its global Desert Locust Information Service (DLIS). All locust-affected countries transmit locust data to FAO who in turn analyses this information in conjunction with weather and habitat data and satellite imagery in order to assess the current locust situation, provide forecasts up to six weeks in advance and issue warnings on an ad-hoc basis.
There are two datasets in the Agro-informatics Platform linked with the DLIS project, they both have a global coverage and same time periods (last week, the current month, last month, the last 3 months, the last 6 months and last year) however, one shows daily data throughout the period while the other shows data for the entire period. These two datasets have been recently updated and are now fully accurate.
