New land cover data - MapBiomas Network
07/09/2026
The data provides information for the following South American countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The MapBiomas Network is a collaborative multi-institutional initiative that uses cloud computing and satellite imagery to produce annual time series of land cover and land use maps. Originally launched in Brazil in 2015, it has expanded into a global network of regional initiatives across South America and Indonesia.
The primary goal of these initiatives is to provide open-source, high-resolution (30m) data that helps monitor environmental dynamics, deforestation, and natural resource transformations from 1985 to the present.
The network is currently organized into several geographic branches, each led by local institutions, NGOs, and universities.
