Zambia Hand-in-Hand Geospatial Analysis

03/12/2025

Aiming at accelerating rural development and agricultural transformation, the initiative leverages advanced geospatial tools to boost rural incomes, reduce vulnerabilities, and promote sustainable agricultural growth. It addresses critical global challenges such as poverty, hunger, malnutrition, and inequality by identifying high-impact opportunities for rural economic expansion.

As part of this global effort, suitability assessments for agrifood systems infrastructure have been conducted in around 80 countries. These assessments span crops, livestock, and aquaculture, using Geographic Information Systems Multi-Criteria Evaluation (GIS-MCE) to integrate and weight diverse geospatial criteria.

The latest datasets contribute to the ongoing suitability assessments for crop and livestock agrifood systems infrastructure in Zambia. The newly published data includes:

  • Accessibility to Major Cities
  • Suitability Index and Recommended Locations for various crop and livestock agrifood systems

These datasets are designed to support evidence-based investment planning and decision-making, helping stakeholders identify optimal locations for agrifood infrastructure development.
