The seventh Annual AGROVOC Editorial Community Meeting was held on 4–5 June 2025 in Berlin, Germany. The meeting aimed to strengthen engagement with the editorial community and set priorities for the coming year. Twenty-three participants from the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia attended in person, with two contributing remotely.

Over two days, discussions focused on the community’s requirements from both library and research perspectives, new infrastructure services, terminology enhancements, and plans for 2025–2026. The activity report noted that by May 2025, AGROVOC contained over 41,000 concepts and 1.2 million terms in up to 42 languages. A new label maintenance policy was introduced to preserve preferred labels, minimizing disruptions for users and information systems relying on labels rather than URIs. This approach is mandatory for six major languages and recommended for others, ensuring model integrity per W3C guidelines.

The community welcomed new e-infrastructure services featuring a simplified interface and single-language search in six FAO languages, developed in response to user needs, particularly in Central America and the Caribbean. Multilingual tools remain essential, with English often required alongside national languages.

In February 2025, AGROVOC’s infrastructure migrated to FAO’s Google Cloud, retiring legacy SOAP-based web services. Data access is now available via a SPARQL endpoint and Skosmos REST APIs, with SPARQL promoted among editors.

A key focus was understanding user requirements to better integrate AGROVOC into metadata workflows. Presentations showcased institutional uses from both library and research sectors, including contributions from Belarus, Russia, Moldova, Serbia, Thailand, Georgia, Uganda, Brazil, CGIAR/ICARDA, and Germany.

Future developments were explored through presentations on German Terminology Services (TS4NFDI), AgroPortal tools (INRAE/LIRMM), and the application of Large Language Models by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Collections—selectable AGROVOC subsets for specific domains—generated strong interest as an accessible alternative to hierarchical vocabularies, with plans for a pilot and further discussions on guidelines and governance.

Recognizing AGROVOC as a global digital public good, participants emphasized the need to better track usage to encourage adoption and meet user needs. Community members were urged to share research and publications, including those in non-FAO languages.

The meeting fostered collaboration and highlighted AGROVOC’s global relevance and interoperability. It concluded with remarks from the newly elected president of Kuratorium für Technik und Bauwesen in der Landwirtschaft e.V. (KTBL), who underscored AGROVOC’s role in facilitating access across languages and borders and the importance of international research cooperation.

By addressing user needs and ensuring quality and accessibility, AGROVOC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting data sharing and interoperability in agriculture.
