Launch of the FAO Reference Centres for Antimicrobial Resistance and Aquaculture Biosecurity
The use of antimicrobials plays a critical role in food security, our well-being, animal and plant welfare. However, the misuse of antimicrobials increases the risk of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and the emergence of organisms resistant to antimicrobials is a growing threat to human, animal and plant life. In order to address AMR, FAO is forging partnerships with Reference Centres (RCs). These will support the global efforts in the food and agriculture sectors, with a focus on aquatic food systems. They will implement the FAO Resolution 4/2015 and work towards the goals outlined in the FAO Action Plan on AMR 2021-2025.
