Donor funded fisheries development projects frequently procure and donate fishing boats to fishers. The process however is often fraught with issues and difficulties which go far beyond boat design. This document provides lessons learned  (good and bad) from the field activities of an FAO executed fishery project on boat procurement in Cambodia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. These lessons learned should be of benefit to other projects.

This case study presents an overview of the context, details the RFLP intervention, gives the results, implementation problems, and recommendations and key lessons learned when RFLP supported the establishment and strengthening the capacity of Fishery Associations in the central provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue of Vietnam.
