Partnerships
Building a sustainable bioeconomy requires collaboration across sectors, regions and communities. FAO works with governments, research institutions, civil society, international organizations and the private sector to strengthen multistakeholder partnerships that support sustainable bioeconomy action at global, regional and national levels.
Strong bioeconomy initiatives exist across the world, operating on varied interpretations and making scaling and replication difficult. To fill that gap, FAO proposes the BEST Partnership: connecting what already exists into an integrated, inclusive and action-oriented global platform that leaves none behind. The proposal is currently under consideration by FAO Members.

FAO hosts the GBEP secretariat, promoting sustainable bioenergy in developing countries through policy development, capacity building and climate action.

FAO and ACTO signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen bioeconomy and food security across eight Amazonian countries, promoting sustainable agrifood systems and natural resource management.

A multi-stakeholder platform supporting knowledge exchange, strategy development and international cooperation on sustainable bioeconomy. Convened by FAO since 2016, bringing together experts from policy, research, civil society and the private sector across five continents.

Annual informal ministerial forum addressing global food and agriculture challenges, including bioeconomy's role in sustainable development. FAO brought its bioeconomy work at the 2015, 2021 and 2025 sessions.

FAO has contributed technical expertise on sustainable agrifood systems and bioeconomy governance under Brazil and South Africa's G20 Presidencies in 2024 and 2025.
