Food safety

Food safety is a fundamental One Health element in the innovative transformation of agrifood systems. This is because ensuring the safety of foods derived from various biotechnologies including gene editing, cell-based food production, precision fermentation and other biotechnological methods, is the foremost interest of consumers. In order to appropriately prepare various options to tackle future food security challenges through innovation and technology, food safety can play a strong enabling role to ensure evidence-based decision-making processes. It is important to recognize key synergies between food safety and various biotechnology applications in the agrifood systems and understand current affairs of safety assessment of foods derived from biotechnologies from various perspectives with the emphasis on the importance of strengthening the Community of Practices (CoPs) to foster international collaborations to benefit from exchanging good practices and lessons learned.
