The meeting is intended to provide a space for an open discussion among CFS stakeholders on the different elements of the HLPE report on Nutrition and Food Systems.
The Committee in 2017 decided to embark on a multistakeholder policy convergence process which is intended to lead to the development of Voluntary Guidelines on Food Systems and Nutrition to be finalized by October 2020.
The Terms of Reference endorsed by the CFS Plenary in 2018 and the CFS Strategy on Nutrition, endorsed in 2016, represent important references for the policy process.
The policy convergence process is supported by the scientific evidence provided by the HLPE Report on Nutrition and Food which was launched in 2017.
The Voluntary Guidelines will be the result of an inclusive consultative process. Five regional consultations will take place between June and October 2019 to get inputs, comments and suggestions on how to best align the guidelines with regional and national priorities and needs. An e-consultation will also take place in 2019 as an additional entry point for interested stakeholders.
A working document - Elements Paper – has been prepared and is regularly updated by the Secretariat, highlighting a number of issues that might be considered and discussed in the course of the preparation of the Voluntary Guidelines.
A living document presenting references to existing relevant international guidance as well as to technical documents concerning food systems and nutrition has also been prepared to support the preparation of the Voluntary Guidelines.
