The Second Report on the State of the World's Forest Genetic Resources

Forests provide vital benefits to people and the planet—supporting biodiversity, livelihoods, soil protection, water regulation, and climate mitigation. Central to these benefits are forest genetic resources: the inherited materials in trees and woody plants that support forest resilience, adaptability, and productivity. The Second Report on the State of the World’s Forest Genetic Resources, developed under the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and based on information provided by 77 countries, assesses these resources globally. It highlights their importance for sustainable development, reviews progress on conservation efforts and offers recommendations for future action at all levels to ensure their continued use and protection.
