Next week from 24 – 26 July 2023, Rome takes center stage hosting the UN Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment. The event is hosted by Italy in collaboration with the Rome-based UN Agencies (FAO, IFAD, WFP), the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub and the wider UN system and will take place at the Headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

أصدر وزراء ونواب وزراء وممثلون رفيعو المستوى من عشرات البلدان الأكثر عُرضة للأزمات والصدمات العالمية نداءً للعمل من أجل تحفيز الجهود الرامية إلى تحويل النظم الزراعية والغذائية لتعزيز كفاءتها وشمولها وقدرتها على الصمود واستدامتها.

The second session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-2) to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment, took place in Paris during the week 29 May–2 June. FAO attended in an observer capacity, joining around 1 700 delegates representing Member States, international organizations and non-governmental organizations.

A new report published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has put a spotlight for the first time on the link between climate change and the scourge of child labour, which affects roughly 160 million children globally with African agriculture at the epicentre. The report has found that the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events is forcing some children to work at greater intensity and duration. These children engaged in child labour are the unseen victims of climate change.  

Take a deep breath. Now ponder this: the big, blue ocean that covers 71 percent of the Earth produces over 50 percent of our oxygen. The ocean is also key to cooling the planet, absorbing 90 percent of the excess heat caused by global warming and capturing 25 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions.
