Climate Change

What we do

FAO supports countries in building climate resilient agrifood systems and addressing the impacts of climate change on agrifood systems by translating global climate commitments into practical, implementable actions across agrifood systems and their subsectors, including crops, livestock, forestry, aquaculture, fisheries and their diverse value chains.

Work focuses on helping countries design, finance, and implement climate-resilient and low-emission agrifood system transformations. This includes combining policy support, technical assistance, and investment facilitation to move from planning to implementation at scale

Climate action implementation

Support is delivered through an integrated approach that:

Strengthens national frameworks and strategies by ensuring they are actionable and reflecting climate goals

Builds institutional and technical capacity to plan, coordinate, and implement climate action across sectors and levels of government

Mobilizes finance and investment by developing pipelines of bankable projects and facilitating access to climate and carbon finance

Provides data, tools, and methodologies to support evidence-based decision-making and robust climate reporting

Areas of work

Technical support is structured across seven interconnected areas of works, complemented  by targeted task forces on carbon markets, methane and climate technologies.
