Objective(s) of the engagement

Mars Inc. has been a longstanding private sector partner of FAO since 2015 in the area of improving food safety and quality in agriculture production. Under this Memorandum of Understanding, FAO and Mars will jointly work to exchange knowledge and information to support science-based decision-making on food safety.

Progress to date
  • Two MARS food safety experts participated in a virtual seminar with a group of Tanzanian officials to explain the postharvest mycotoxin contamination model that could be of use in Tanzania
  • Following a request to FAO for technical advice, a MARS expert participated in a recent meeting of producers of lipid based nutritional products for malnourished populations to provide expert advice on physical hazards and objectionable matter in the production of low moisture foods
