Objective(s) of the engagement

FAO and EcorNaturaSì aim to develop and promote joint actions which have the potential to improve the livelihoods of populations living in rural areas and fragile ecosystems, such as mountains and islands landscapes. Both organizations work to ensure more inclusive food and agriculture systems at local, national and international levels, to reduce food loss and food waste, and to improve value chains and market access for small-scale producers, conservation and use of biodiversity, and animal welfare.

Progress to date
  • Joint idenitification of quality mountain products that will appeal to consumers worldwide
  • Conduction of trainings and tailored assistance to farmers on varius topics including moving towards organic farming, improving their marketing skills, as well as on how to tackle the negative impacts of COVID-19 on the local markets
  • Contribution to GROW Summer School organized by Sapienza University of Rome, Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), and the Mountain Partnership Secretariat,  which focuses on addressing the issue of agrobiodiversity in a changing climate
  • Contribution to the Mountain Partnership by supporting the improvement of the Mountain Partnership Products initiative  which has helped around 10,000 mountain smallholders, of whom 6,000 are women, in eight countries to market their products
  • In collaboration with Mountain Partnership members, EcorNaturaSi sponsored a modular organic rooftop farm at FAO, the first installed on a United Nations building. The farm highlights how innovative technology contributes to sustainable agri-food systems and accessible healthy diets.
