Previous engagement with the proposed counterpart were on technical and scientific discussions. For example, on 17 October 2022, Dr Wang Jian, Co-Founder and Chairperson of the BGI Group and Chairperson of BGI Genomics, participated as a speaker at the Joint Grand Opening of the World Food Forum, the FAO Science and Innovation Forum, and the Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum. As a scientist and entrepreneur, he contributed to the discussions on the role of private sector in the agrifood system transformation. On 12 October 2022, BGI conducted one of the 95 side events that preceded the FAO Science and Innovation Forum. The side event “A cutting-edge genomics technology that revolutionizes plant and animal research” discussed the Stereo-seq technology (Spatial Enhanced Resolution Sequencing), a promising tool enabling the study of complex biological processes that opens broad avenues for applications in food and agriculture.
