Hello all, I am abdullah, a media and ICT activist form Bangladesh. I found a very interesting Model called "Community-supported agriculture (CSA)" at Wiki. Let's explore the post....... = Text from the Wiki post = "Community-supported agriculture (CSA) is a relatively new socio-economic model of food production, sales, and distribution aimed at both increasing the quality of food and the quality of care given the land, plants and animals - while substantially reducing potential food losses and financial risks for the producers. It is also a method for small-scale commercial farmers and gardeners to have a successful, small-scale closed market. CSA's focus is usually on a system of weekly delivery or pick-up of vegetables, sometimes also flowers, fruits, herbs and even milk or meat products in some cases. A variety of similar production and economic sub-systems are in use worldwide: -Association pour le maintien de l'agriculture paysanne (AMAP) in France -Agriculture soutenue par la communauté (ASC) in Québec -Teikeis (æ??æ?º) in Japan -Reciproco in Portugal CSAs focus on having: -a transparent, whole season budget for producing a specified wide array of products for a set number of weeks a year; -a common-pricing system where producers and consumers discuss and democratically agree to pricing based on the acceptance of the budget; and -a "shared risk and reward' agreement, i.e. that the consumers eat what the farmers grow even with the vagaries of seasonal growing. The pre-history of the CSA concept is still somewhat sketchy, and not well-documented. According to most sources, community supported agriculture began in the early 1960s in Germany, Switzerland, and Japan as a response to concerns about food safety and the urbanization of agricultural land. Groups of consumers and farmers in Europe formed cooperative partnerships to fund farming and pay the full costs of ecologically sound, socially equitable agriculture. Dear Narayan, What you are doing sounds very interesting. For the telecentres what is the business model for paying and generating revenue? Do farmers have to pay for the information or the internet time only? Noel

Dear Dr.Gandhi, Thanks for your comments. I have visited your web page of IPFS. It's really a environment friendly initiative to return our earth in initial stage. Organic farming system is practiced some areas of Bangladesh but not largely although the demands of organic farming products increasing day by day. Yes, we also think our content and farmers will be enriched if we can develop our knowledge in organic farming. And in this case your active participations can make it fruitfull. You already showed some interests and hope about ADB projects in Microinsurance for Bangladesh. We welcome you. But how can it be implemented and continued and what are the role of us? Can you please clarify this? Again thanks for your comments and suggestions. DR.Narayan
