Hi to everyone While we are discusing the possibility for a ppp model in agriculture, I would like to commend all of the Author for their rich and insightful information posted. As said by Baratini, for the nondeveloped countries, how can farmers afford the cost of ICTs, even if this does not mean distributing PC or cell phones to farmers? However, I think there is great opportunities ICt can offer to the development of the agric industry mainly as the information provided by para disipline related to metereology, pedology, techonologies to inssure good irrigation system in area where water availability is a big issue can be of great help to farmers. Developed countries have a fundamental role to play in this ppp-model in terms of tranfer of technologies, expertisen and research works. All these are possible through ICTs (Local community Media centers, rural radio station and ICT training programs. e-Agriculture practicioners should also be able to gather to avocate for the integration of basic ICT program in Agriculture training Schools curricular for the next generation farmers Strong partnership also need to be developede with Big ICT companies to offer a low cost items in favor of E-agriculture. I have here many questions 1st. what does it require to make a locally sustainable ppp model for a win-win situation?

Hello, My name is Naimur Rahman and I am associated with OneWorld South Asia - the South Asian Regional Centre of OneWorld Network. At OneWorld South Asia we believe in leveraging the democratic potential ICTs and emerging media for sustainable development; and appropriating traditional and state-of-the-art Internet technology to bring about qualitative improvements in people's lives in remote rural communities. In realisation to these goals, we now have initiated LifeLines-India, an innovative and multistakeholder initiative to provide key knowledge service to around 40,000 farmers in 700 villages in North & Central India. During the course of this e-discussion, I hope to share more on LifeLines-India initiative and its newer derivatives.
