Providing Access to Journals and Online Databases

06/08/2009
Dear Anaam and Ekanath You are bringing up important issues about the access to, use of and contribution from the local level. Can you (and anyone reading this!) give some examples of how this area might be strengthened? For example, could you say more about * Public/private partnerships and their role in accessing and contributing to CGIAR iGPGs? * What might stimulate local ownership and investment in iGPGs? * How can universities and indigenous groups contribute to the iGPGs? The issue of a common "middleware," as you described it Anaam, is a bit part of the plan. Both from a technical and process perspective. What are the biggest needs you see for this middleware? What might it look like from your perspective? Again, and specific examples are REALLY useful.

Basically accessibility is problem. There is no practice of using e agriculture information. Still, there is traditional way of agriculture practices and information flow. Mainly, agriculture extension workers and practitioner in the ground are far behind this concept. We are developing the such kind of good concept with out considering the real need at ground.

Mila, thanks for raising the issue of access to journals. I'm tracking down a CGIAR person who is knowledgeable about their journal access issues to join in to this conversation. I'm guessing this is an issue for others. Ekanath, you bring in another, much broader element of access. I think these are two very important issues. I'm going to open a second, new thread about the more general access and we'll rename this one to focus on access to journals so we can focus attention on two important issues. THANKS!
