I am D. Rama Rao, Faculty in the Information and communication Management at National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad, India. There are enquiries from extension personnel on how to use mobile based SMS to reach farmers - it should be simple, and cost effective too. Desirable if it can be though a PC connected to low band width internet. I am keen on this area as this has tremendous potential for use in India.

Great to "see" you again Dr Rao. The use of SMS is indeed filled with potential. Please check the first discussion question which is now posted under the new thread "Discussions - Week 1". Cheers, Michael (FAO)

I am Kris Dev, ICT and e-Gov Consultant based out of Chennai, TN, India. We have tested 1 to N communication direct from a PC, using a mobile phone and modem to send messages through sms to all registered users. It is simple and effective to disseminate information to the field. We can support such implementations.
