Hello, It's really an informative effort to share and discuss the pragmatic action plan which will help the resource poor farmers in Indian Sub-continent. Right now, we are trying to provide on-line market information on perishable farm commodities to farmers through on-line and mobile. I am looking forward for more discussion and interaction. Regards anand
Hello, Hi Forum, I am Pieter Henning a Mobile device service developer from South Africa. As a participant in MobileActive08 summit held last month in Johannesburg, I have experienced the dire need for Mobile comms to be leveraged in the same manner than Health and Social Network is supported by activists. Due to the dynamic requirement I have nearly completed the SureProduce management service. SureProduce is a workflow management service utilising Mobile comms to enable subsistence farmers to receive and return produce items being transported by Transport Agents (TA) to their Co-op. The TA can be a partnering farmer that has spare transport capacity and would like to offer it the normal supply chain. Any discussion on using Mobile and Internet comms in this sharing of resources fashion would be welcomed. Good luck with the groundbreaking Forum. Hello Dears, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) India and in collaboration with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) had taken an initiative to link seven major markets in South-India such as Cochin, Chennai, Bangalore-(2 markets), Coimbatore, Trichy and Ottanchattam to provide daily on-line Market Information on 129 perishable commodities includes Vegetables, Fruits, Flowers and Spices on both wholesale and retail prices. This would help the farmers as collective and have better produces mobilization and grater bargaining power. Reaching more number of farmers we had decided to deliver the same bi-lingual information through mobile phones. As you know, it is going to be big opportunity to disseminate market information and technology to the farmers on their door steps. Hello Dr Anand, this is a very interesting example you have given of a market information system that started out computer-based and is now being expanded to include mobile phones. Do you have any thoughts about how including the use of mobile phones will increase the socio-economic benefits of this system? Would you share those thoughts with the forum in today's new section ""? Thanks! Michael (FAO)
