1.As an agronomist, developed improved agro-technologies in a variety of crops such as rice, potato and several medicinal and aromatic plants. I have been a group leader for more than 30 years, developing agro-technologies for commercially important medicinal and aromatic plants, especially in south India. These technologies have been demonstrated in farmers’ fields and the medicinal plants and essential oil industries have been greatly benefitted by these technological interventions. Farmers and entrepreneurs have been trained to optimize production, processing and marketing methods which have greatly improved the economic viability of these crops and their products.

2. As an expert in natural resources management, developed efficient methods of use of plant nutrients, water and a variety of soil resources for crop production. As a recognition of my work I have been elected Fellow of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS)(India) in 2003 in the area of Natural Resources Management and served in many expert committees of NAAS. In recognition of my work in Agronomy, I have been elected Fellow of Indian Society of Agronomy (ISA)(2007) and received ISA Gold Medal(2009).In recognition of my work on aromatic plants, I have been elected Fellow of Indian Society of Spices(2012).

3. As a head of CIMAP Research Centre for 11 years, I have been able to catalyze entrepreneurship based on medicinal and aromatic plants in south India. These efforts have resulted in recognition at national level in the form of awards, fellowships and advisory assignments of national importance.

4. I have worked in a CSIR Network project on sustainability in changing climate to develop models on agricultural systems i.e., interfacing crops, soils and environment. This work also involves using dynamical weather models for sustainable and precision agriculture.

5. Currently, engaged in research on climate change and agriculture; working on carbon sequestration, plant disease modelling. Also I am an advisor/consultant for the cultivation and processing of medicinal and aromatic plants.
