Chris Chan is an IT service delivery veteran, having worked in the industry since 1997. He enjoys putting processes and procedures in place to increase productivity and cut down unnecessary work, his mantra being “Repetitive work is best handled by computers”. Chris has played a big role in the past 8 years getting suppliers and customers from diverse backgrounds across the globe to work together, single-handedly building a pan-Asia network of suppliers from scratch for a British IT firm. Bridging the East-West divide in business, in doing so he has learnt to appreciate the unique qualities of different individuals and cultures.
In his free time Chris enjoys writing for virtual and print magazines. His favourite topics include personal development, social responsibility and teleworking. He has ample material to draw upon, having spent the last 10 years outside a regular office working and watching and pondering about life from home, cafes, coffee shops and serviced offices.
An early starter in distributed workforce, he firmly believes that the future lies in independent workers contributing their expertise as silos towards organisations, resulting in greater spread of skills and better utilisation of talents. There will be no monopoly over knowledge, but a meld of information sharing which will consequently result in better social equality and cohesion.
Chris’s view on the future of the working world closely parallels those he holds regarding the future of the global society. He has self-studied metaphysics and attended the Foundational, Advanced, Personal Mastery, Nepal Retreat and Masters’ Course Level 1 – 3 of the ‘Awaken The Divine You’ series and the Instructors’ Certification Course conducted by the internationally recognised personal mastery trainer, speaker and metaphysician, Master Umesh H. Nandwani of The Golden Space, a non-religious spiritual transformational centre.
Chris sees himself and all other beings as beautiful and unique expressions of the one creative source some choose to call God or the Universe. As such Chris believes that he along with the rest of the human race each play a unique part to contribute to the world and in the current global climate of fear and disharmony of individuals with each other and with nature and the environment, he believes the way to restoration is through the large scale sharing of resources and know-how, as with his idea of the future of business community.
In this grain, Chris founded the Active Citizens’ Initiative, a virtual platform where he addresses his concerns about life in Singapore and through his articles engage Singapore citizens in bringing forth improvements in their community.
Believing in the importance of lifelong learning, post university, Chris obtained a Masters of Business Administration from Macquarie Graduate School of Management. He is also a Competent Toastmaster of the internationally well-known public speaking club, Toastmasters’ International. Currently he is an earnest student of the ancient Chinese martial art of Taiji and the Hindi language. He is also an active volunteer farmer and handyman at the Ground Up Initiative, a not-for-profit organization charged with connecting the Earth with people who want to be the change we want to create.
