FAO's ECTAD program celebrates 20 years of combating and preventing global animal health threats

Established in 2004, the Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) celebrates two decades of impactful work. Globally, the program is active in 50 countries, implementing 314 projects, enhancing the capacity of 160 laboratories, and delivering 330 courses across 29 countries.

For the first time, a fully operational veterinary agro-input shop has opened its doors, thanks to the dedication of Mr. Roy Tuah, a Community Animal Health Worker (CAHW) trained by FAO's Emergency Centre for Animal Transboundary Diseases (ECTAD) and the Ministry of Agriculture back in 2019.
FAO’s Farmer Field Schools using behavioural science to address antimicrobial resistance in Tanzania

In a recent mission to Tanzania, behavioural scientists from FAO headquarters and FAO Kenya country office joined FAO Tanzania to visit six Farmer Field Schools (FFS) focused on broiler production. During the mission, FFS facilitators were provided additional training on the use of the Capacity, Opportunity, and Motivation (COM-B) model for behaviour change.
Boosting laboratory performance and One Health surveillance with the Advanced Laboratory Information Management System in Zambia

From October to December of 2023, FAO ECTAD provided crucial technical support by upgrading the Sistema Informativo dei Laboratori [Laboratory Information System] (SILAB), a specialized LIMS designed to streamline and automate laboratory operations in Africa.
