Energy

Cross-cutting areas

In addition to its core areas—renewable energy, sustainable bioenergy, and energy efficiency and sustainability—FAO’s Energy-Smart Agrifood Systems (ESAS) Programme addresses a variety of key cross-cutting priorities that enhance its overall impact, including expanding access to sustainable energy in humanitarian settings and promoting clean cooking solutions.

In crisis-affected contexts, FAO supports the deployment of green energy solutions to strengthen resilience and improve energy access in displacement settings.

Clean cooking solutions, in turn, offer practical alternatives to polluting fuels, helping to reduce health risks, ease pressure on natural resources, and strengthen food and nutrition security for rural and vulnerable populations.

By integrating these priorities, ESAS helps drive more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems.
