Action Area 6 – FAST control

FAST control: national control of FAST diseases reduces the risk and impact of these diseases at an international level. Developing capacity in national veterinary services supports control efforts, ultimately improving trade conditions, supporting food security and increasing livelihood resilience. This can be achieved through capacity development activities that are targeted at national and regional level, focusing on the appropriate audience and modalities. Additionally, ensuring that ressources for FAST disease control are utilized in the most efficient way will enable strategic implmentation of animal health activities.

The two key sub-activities:

  • 6.1 FAST capacity development
    • Adaptation of trainings/tools/system according to priority diseases and risk areas, ensuring complementarity of actions provided by other regional/international organizations and regional/global control and eradication strategies.
  • 6.2 Prioritization and investment
    • Develop tools and trainings to support assessment of the socioeconomic impact of FAST diseases, and identifythe economic cost-benefit of their control plans.
    • Assist with the design and implementation of FAST control strategies in order to contribute to safer trade of commodities.
