Rural depopulation, slowed by projects for youths

Through this transnational cooperation project, the young people of the territories of six LAG in Italy, Finland and France found local traditions and legends, bringing added value and innovation of rural and cultural identity by writing stories and editing video montages (storytelling). Recognizing the importance of the countryside, the youths of these three countries have embarked on this project to encourage other members of their communities to participate in rural development, in particular through initiatives supported by the LEADER approach. “Our rural areas are developed with and by young people. We depend heavily on them”, says a local Finnish Kolari municipality. The project started with the idea that promoting creativity in the young population increases the added value in rural areas through positive publicity brought to areas affected by depopulation. The overall objective was to strengthen the link with young people living in which they live. More specifically, the project aims to support young people in building a society based on the characteristics of modern life, while preserving and respecting at the same time, local culture and traditions.
