Initiatives mapping

This interactive database offers a mapping of initiatives to better understand the landscape of actors working at the intersection of agrifood systems, climate change and finance. The mapping focuses on multi-stakeholder initiatives, comprising for example alliances, coalitions, declarations, fora, policy dialogues and networks relevant to agrifood systems, climate change, and finance. It does not include single-country/-actor initiatives or individual companies/organizations.  

Using the database

The database serves as a resource for stakeholders looking to navigate the agrifood-climate-finance nexus, it promotes synergies and collaboration while reducing duplication of efforts. The database is designed to be a dynamic resource, updated periodically as new initiatives emerge. Users can explore the list through searchable categories, including thematic focus areas (Strong focus: >50%; Focus: <50%), keywords, and geographic scope.

The initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of regenerative agriculture and climate adaptation practices by closing critical gaps in financing and soil health knowledge. Through engaging 100 million farmers and developing innovative financing models and collaborations, it seeks to catalyze a global transition to sustainable food systems prioritizing soil health, biodiversity, climate resilience and farmer livelihoods.

IN PARTNERSHIP SINCE: 2021

The 50x2030 Initiative addresses the critical gap in agricultural data by transforming data systems in 50 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America by 2030. Implemented by the World Bank, FAO, and IFAD, the initiative works to produce and share high-quality agricultural data to empower countries to make data-driven decisions and investments for food security, climate resilience, rural livelihoods, and economic growth.

IN PARTNERSHIP SINCE: 2018

As a state-led initiative (42 members) it aims to accelerate climate adaptation by translating global commitments into actionable strategies across sectors such as agriculture, water, and infrastructure. The coalition emphasizes locally led solutions, promoting equitable access to climate finance and leveraging community knowledge to strengthen resilience to climate impacts.

IN PARTNERSHIP SINCE: 2021

The ARIC is an international partnership of development finance institutions dedicated to accelerating and scaling up private investment in climate adaptation and resilience in developing countries. The ARIC boosts investment pipeline development and support for early-stage ventures that offer climate adaptation and resilience solutions. The initiative emphasizes the need for resilient infrastructure and agriculture, financial products, private sector integration and the development of domestic markets to drive solutions. 

IN PARTNERSHIP SINCE: 2020

The AAA Initiative focuses on advocacy, project support and capacity development to reduce the vulnerability of agriculture in Africa to climate change. It advocates for appropriate consideration of the topic during climate negotiations and increased climate funds. AAA is governed by the annual conference of ministers of agriculture, a board of directors and a scientific committee.

IN PARTNERSHIP SINCE: 2016

The AAAP is a joint initiative of the African Development Bank and the Global Center on Adaptation. It aims to mobilize $25 billion by 2025 to accelerate climate adaptation actions across Africa. The program focuses on four pillars: Food Security, Infrastructure and Nature-Based Solutions, Youth Entrepreneurship and Adaptation Jobs, and Adaptation Finance. Through targeted projects, AAAP seeks to enhance resilience, drive sustainable economic growth, and integrate adaptation into development planning. 

IN PARTNERSHIP SINCE: 2021

The AAI was launched by African Heads of States at COP21. It set out with four pillars of activities: improving climate information services, strengthening policies and institutions, boosting on-the-ground action, and increasing access to and mobilising climate finance and investments. Through its steering committee and political guidance, AAI is strongly rooted in African institutions.

IN PARTNERSHIP SINCE: 2015

AFR100 is aiming to restore 100 million hectares of degraded and deforested land in Africa by 2030. The goal is to restore ecological functions and human well-being through forest and landscape restoration, enhancing food security, increasing climate change resilience and mitigation, and combating rural poverty. As of 2024, there are 34 committed countries and 129 million hectares committed to restoration.

IN PARTNERSHIP SINCE: 2015

Launched at COP26 and supported by 61 countries, the Breakthrough Agenda brings together nations and initiatives to amplify collective action across seven high-emitting sectors (accounting for over 60% of global emissions) to accelerate progress toward a sustainable, low-carbon future. The agenda's overarching goal is to achieve net-zero emissions by mid-century.

IN PARTNERSHIP SINCE: 2021

The PDB Platform for Green and Inclusive Food Systems was inaugurated at the 2021 Finance in Common Summit. This platform is dedicated to enhancing financing for sustainable agriculture and food systems, offering services tailored to Public Development Banks' needs. The platform provides technical assistance, knowledge exchange, and support for innovative projects.

AIM4C is a five-year joint initiative by the United States and the United Arab Emirates with over 600 government and knowledge partners. AIM4C seeks to address climate change and global hunger by uniting participants to significantly increase investment in, and other support for, climate-smart agriculture and food systems innovation. 

IN PARTNERSHIP SINCE: 2021

The coalition pursues actions to transform food systems through agroecology to be sustainable, resilient, inclusive, equitable, healthy and economically thriving. Its priorities include fostering co-creation, scaling up investments, advocating for supportive policies and promoting market pathways to enable this transition.

AFSA is a coalition of civil society actors advocating for food sovereignty across the African continent. AFSA brings together farmers' organizations, NGO networks, indigenous peoples' groups, consumer movements, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable agricultural practices, smallholder farmers' rights, and ensure equitable, environmentally sound food systems in Africa. AFSA's work focuses on African food policy, climate change and agroecology, healthy soils and foods, among others.  

IN PARTNERSHIP SINCE: 2011

The ACF is committed to strengthening national visions and food systems transformation pathways, updating NDCs, NAPs, LT-LEDS,​​ and NBSAPs in line with National Food System Transformation Pathways and/or Implementation Plans, and to reporting annually on targets and priority intervention areas. ACF adopts a 'whole of government' approach across ten intervention areas such as realigning public financial and policy incentives, reducing GHG emissions, and reducing food loss and waste.

ACT2025 is a global coalition of experts and stakeholders dedicated to advancing effective climate policies in international negotiations with a special focus on the priorities of climate-vulnerable countries. Its core objectives are to drive climate ambition, foster solidarity and prosperity, and to amplify the voices of climate vulnerable countries.
