APFISN is dedicated to addressing forest invasive species (FIS) challenges across the Asia-Pacific region through the following key objectives and priorities:

• Raise awareness about the impacts of forest invasive species, targeting diverse stakeholders including decision-makers and research institutes to ensure sustained support.
• Facilitate information exchange among member countries by providing access to technical expertise, research findings, and training opportunities.
• Strengthen regional cooperation and develop collaborative strategies to address FIS threats effectively, leveraging partnerships across the region.
• Enhance capacity-building initiatives to equip member countries with the skills and resources needed to prevent and manage FIS.
• Maintain a robust information-sharing platform to connect national databases, promote the exchange of research results and management practices, and keep members informed about the latest developments and activities.

APFISN’s structure is designed to effectively support its activities across both regional and national levels. 

An Executive Committee, provides strategic direction, while two dedicated Co-coordinators manage daily operations. 

National focal points, appointed by member countries, play a vital role in facilitating timely information exchange and linking the network with other regional and global forest invasive species initiatives.

APFISN follows a regional strategy that guides its short- and long-term activities, endorsed by the Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission. The network’s work is coordinated by the Executive Committee, the Co-coordinators, and national focal points.

Awareness Raising. A crucial priority for APFISN is raising awareness about the impacts of forest invasive species. The network’s communication strategy targets various audiences, including governmental and political stakeholders, to ensure sustained support for its activities. Initiatives include:

• Publication and distribution of brochures, information sheets, posters, newsletters, and fact sheets.
• Dissemination of information on success stories of effective actions against FIS.

Capacity Building. The network emphasizes building capacity across the region to ensure effective prevention and management of FIS. APFISN supports targeted training opportunities and collaborative actions, such as:

• Gathering and analyzing country reports on FIS status and needs.
• Organizing workshops and training programs on topics like invasive species management plans, pest risk assessment, and early warning systems.
• Encouraging collaborative research projects, staff exchanges, and resource pooling to facilitate technology and skill transfer.

Databases and Information Sharing. Facilitating the exchange of information on FIS remains a top priority for APFISN. The network encourages members to share research results, management practices, and control techniques, with efforts to link national databases through the APFISN platform. 

Regular updates, newsletters, and country reports are made available on the APFISN website to keep members informed about the latest developments and activities.
