Our work
FAO’s forest health and protection programme helps countries safeguard forests, forest ecosystems and trees outside forests from pests and diseases.
Offering advice on prevention, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and actions to prevent pest transfer, as well as assistance, which includes projects that deliver both emergency response and long-term prevention strategies.
FAO provides technical aid through its Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP), addressing specific pest issues and aiding in the development of strategies.
Additionally, FAO develops knowledge products, such as guidelines and e-learning courses, to address pest movement amplified by the growing international trade and climate change.
Moreover, FAO has established Regional Forest Invasive Species Networks dedicated to sharing information and resources, connecting experts and institutions in forest health and forest invasive species management.

Activities

Regional forest invasive species networks
FAO has helped establish regional networks dedicated to forest health and forest invasive species.
These networks aim to facilitate the exchange of information and the mobilization of resources, raise regional awareness, and act as a link between and among experts, institutions, networks, and other relevant stakeholders.
Technical assistance
In response to requests from governments, FAO provides direct technical assistance on forest pests.
These projects assist countries not only to respond to pest outbreaks and emergencies but also in establishing long-term forest protection strategies.

Knowledge products
FAO develops several knowledge products to provide key information needed to combat the increasing threats posed by forest pests.
