Since its early days in the 1950s, the Joint FAO/ECE Working Party on Forest Economics and Statistics has been regularly dealing with conversion factor problems. The reasons for this are easy to understand, given its mandate to improve the international comparability of international forest and forest products statistics and the quality of the information which is collected by FAO and ECE from countries and published in the FAO Yearbook of Forest Products and the FAO/ECE Timber Bulletin.
